Eutectic Metallurgy

The "Silicon Aluminum" (Al-Si) system in ER4043 is based on the eutectic principle. At 12.6% Si, the alloy reaches its lowest melting point. With 5% Si, ER4043 exists in a state that provides an exceptionally wide mushy zone. This allows the weld pool to remain fluid longer, promoting the escape of gases and significantly reducing porosity. This makes it the premier filler for "leak-tight" applications where pressure integrity is more critical than absolute mechanical strength.
